Blizzard Makes $3.5 million off Digital Horse Sale

Massively multiplayer online role-playing games are capable of causing hysteria amongst millions. Recently, Blizzard announced the availability of Lil' XT through its digital pet store. These are virtual items and meant for fun purpose only. These are a part of the virtual in-game pet store for the most popular MMORPG - World of Warcraft. This game has several micro-transaction offers taking place in its ecosystem.

World of Warcraft got in-game mount as Celestial Steed and it was being sold through Blizzard's virtual store for $25, 20 Euros or 17 Pounds. Celestial Steed is a translucent flying horse

As per WoW.com's reports, the queue for Celestial Steed and Lil' XT consisted of about 140,000 people who were waiting to buy these two virtual pets within three hours of the release.

However, not each and every WoW player can buy the mount because though digital in nature, these goodies are sold in limited numbers. Blizzard spokesperson explained at the WoW.forums, "The number of available mounts is limited in the sense that there is a fixed number of codes available in the store. "These codes are not generated automatically with each purchase, instead they are generated separately and then added to the store in batches. The Celestial Steed is not supposed to be a limited time offer only, so we will of course add more codes in case the current batch of codes gets sold out," he added.

Now you know why every other social game makers like Zynga et all are exploring the potential of micro-transactions and virtual goodies.
