Nvidia had released its next generation computational graphics architecture Fermi cards GTX 470 and GTX 480 in March. A listing at Eurocom website for its Leopard Workstation has Nvidia GeForce GTX 480M graphics as an option. Wow! So now, we'll have the Fermi goodness on the mobile platform as well. As per the specifications, this new Nvidia GeForce GTX 480M graphics is expected to arrive in June.
Nvidia's new Fermi architecture based graphics cards GTX 480 and GTX 470 created hustle amongst the high-power computing enthusiasts and gaming crowd when they were launched. With 40nm fabrication process made GF100 GPU that supports DirectX 11 and offers slew of other advance features for better HD playback and even transcoding videos. Eurocom X8100 Leopard laptop lists GeForce GTX 480M wherein M clearly stands for mobile platform.
GeForce GTX 480M listed in the notebook has 100W specification besides the 2GB GDDR5 memory support. We aren't sure if the 100W is the Thermal Design Power rating or power requirement in case you choose this particular discrete GPU for your laptop. The desktop version GTX 480 has TDP of 250W so it seems like we'll have to presume that 100W is indeed the TDP rating for mobile platform.
Of course Nvidia's Optimus Technology could be put to good use. Optimus technology offers the Nvidia Graphics loaded systems to automatically keep switching between integrated graphics and discrete graphics as per requirements. So the mobile platform version of Nvidia's Fermi architecture based DirectX 11 supporting graphics will arrive next month. And we may see more 3D-Stereoscopic gaming supportive laptops in the near future.
